The rise in obesity across Europe is a significant concern, with high levels of obesity often coinciding with high rates of unemployment. Our clients C3 are one of 14 organisations from across Southern England and Northern France coming together to tackle obesity and unemployment holistically via ASPIRE (Adding to Social capital and individual Potential In disadvantaged Regions), an Interreg VA Channel project funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The project encourages a “grow your own, eat your own, sell your own” ethos, inspiring a new model, co-created using partner expertise in both fields.

C3 asked us to develop a communications strategy to help them to promote and highlight their role in the project and in particular the use of their CHESS community engagement tool which is at the heart of the project, helping people to make healthier lifestyle choices and improve their employability. The tool collects data by asking questions relating to existing community assets, such as food shops, restaurants and physical activity spaces – key indicators of whether or not it is possible to live healthily, locally.

Working closely with the project team at C3 we formed a communications strategy identifying C3’s key communications aims and objectives, outlining areas for potential media and social media stories, insights into political and media agendas, suggested presence at events and thoughts on cross channel communications and culture differences.

C3 is just at the beginning of its journey with ASPIRE, which will run until 2023. We hope that by using our communications strategy they will find plenty of opportunities to promote its unique contribution to ASPIRE, as well as promoting its mission as a charity focusing on the chronic non-communicable disease epidemic.
