On 21 May we celebrated in virtual style once again, when the winners of the Advancing Healthcare Awards 2021 were announced. This year saw a really strong representation from Northern Ireland, with 11 finalists, four category winners, the overall AHP winner and two Rising Stars.
For AHPs, the overall winner is Joanne McKee, who is the lead at the Whiteabbey Nightingale rehabilitation unit, near Belfast. She played a key part in rapidly setting up the unit for patients post-COVID and achieving a reputation for effective team working to help people to recover from the virus.
For healthcare scientists, the overall winner is Basit Abdul and the Global Clinical Engineering Day team whose video captured the work of clinical engineers especially during the pandemic, inspiring healthcare scientists of the future.
