Aim
Chamberlain Dunn Learning was asked to design and deliver a series of one-day workshops that would focus on the quality of appraisal conversations at WLMHT as well as introduce a new on-line process to managers. The emphasis was on having high quality conversations with staff to ensure that they felt there was management interest in their career development. A strong focus was placed on enabling staff to identify and implement their own career goals, attainable with support from their manager.
Our solution
Working with the Trust, the one-day programme and materials were designed by a team of Chamberlain Dunn Learning facilitators, and underpinned with the principles of collaborative and empathic management, encouraging participants to use a coaching approach to appraisal conversations. We delivered 22 workshops in three months across two sites to multi-disciplinary groups. We also produced a set of accompanying course materials to complement the one-day programmes, providing managers with a useful reference tool during the PDR process.
Achievements
Overall the majority of attendees rated the course as `excellent’. Attendees commented that it has increased their confidence in preparing for and conducting an effective appraisal conversation and given them a very clear understanding of the new process.
