The 2017 Roadshow got underway on 19 May at the AJ Bell Stadium in Manchester. With over 80 people attending and a set of speakers that was described as ‘truly inspiring’, the North West branch event was very lively and provided plenty of opportunities to meet up with colleagues old and new.
Delegates heard from Tracy Myhill, Chief Executive, Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust; David D’Souza, Head of Engagement, CIPD; and Carolyn Wilkins, Chief Executive, Oldham Borough Council – as well as a panel of speakers including Andrew Foster, CEO, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust; Amy Barringer, North West Head of Health at UNISON and RCN Senior Officer, Colm Byrne.
Next on the Roadshow trail was the Midlands with East and West Midlands joining forces to bring a packed day focussing on the future for HR in the NHS. Held at De Montfort University, Leicester on 9 June it was great to see so many faces from HR & OD getting together to share best practice, catch up with colleagues and take the opportunity to ‘reflect and learn’.
Sessions included the ‘Musings of a Reflective Leader’ from Peter Homa, Chief Executive, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, a thought-provoking talk from Peter Anderton on the ‘Keys to Leadership’ and an interesting insight from Karen Grave, Vice-president, Public Service People Managers’ Association (PPMA) on ‘Being a 21st Century public servant’.
Our Roadshow events are free to HPMA members and made possible by the generous support of our commercial partners who make up our small but perfectly formed roadshow exhibitions. They even go as far as offering some fantastic prize draws with the chance to win anything from a conflict resolution training course to an iPad mini – with some chocolate and bubbles along the way.
We’ve now had 6 roadshow events in total including a great turn-out in Scotland, a conference pre-runner in Leeds, East of England in October and culminating in the HPMA London Academy event at the impressive Governor’s Hall in St Thomas’ Hospital.
We’re already looking forward to the 2018 HPMA Roadshow series so if you’re interested in supporting please get in touch now.
