From all over the UK, they came. Thank you so much for an amazing response so far to our Advancing Healthcare ESTEEM. We will be presenting every one of them in our on-line gallery but meanwhile here’s a flavour of the first dozen to arrive.

Across the whole AHP and healthcare science world in England, Beverley Harden recognises the work of Paul Chapman, return to practice lead at Health Education England for his ‘unswerving commitment to returning hundreds back onto the HCPC Register. Paul has single handed driven return to practice for both professions against all adversity.’

From Hywel Dda University Health Board, Chris Hopkins praises his clinical engineering team for their hard work, thinking outside the box and managing and sourcing much needed medical equipment. Douglas Etheridge and his radiotherapy physics treatment planning team in the SW Wales Cancer Centre reconfigured almost overnight the delivery of breast radiotherapy.

David Collyer, operating department practitioner at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, had his photo essay about what ODPs are doing in the crisis published in the Guardian, shining a spotlight on an often overlooked group.

The irrepressible Harvey’s Gang founder, Malcolm Robinson, nominates Martin Maley and his team of biomedical scientists in the Red Cell Immunohaematology lab in Newcastle for their outstanding work in dealing with scientifically difficult samples from COVID positive patients. Martin even found time to give socially distant haircuts to raise money for Harvey’s Gang.

The physiotherapists in NHS Highland have rethought the needs of COVID patients when they leave hospital and created a multi-disciplinary pathway.  The Midlothian MSK physiotherapists have transformed into a mobile response team, deployed daily to fill gaps in essential services, including the COVID assessment centre.

Jon Price and the NW Ambulance Service community specialist paramedic team are praised for the way they have risen to new challenges, led by Jon: ‘His clarity, honesty, optimism and kindness is well reflected in our day to day practice — we are proud to be led by such an innovative, person-centred and holistic manager.’

Jane Anderson, in her role as radiology clinical services manager at NHS Fife has worked tirelessly to ensure staff are safe and supported. The paediatric speech and language therapy team with the SMILE project at Midlands Partnership substituted phone contact and e-learning to replace face to face group support for children at risk of speech delay and their parents. Michael Dolan and his assistive technology team in Edinburgh pooled their resources and skills to become the PPE distribution hub and started mass producing visors for the NHS and carers.

And finally, the Institute of Biomedical Science nominates its president Allan Wilson for brilliant work in ensuring the profession’s voice is heard across the UK when it most needed to be, showing ‘diligent and diplomatic professionalism.’ The pandemic president.

Congratulations to everyone. If you would like to nominate a team or individual go to https://ahawards.co.uk/esteem/
